Brisbane City Council in Court

The owners of a heritage listed building, Brisbane’s Customs House have instituted legal proceedings against The Brisbane City Council after it approved the construction of a 47 storey building next door.

The building is owner by The University of Queensland, who say the development so close to the heritage listed building would be ‘out of proportion’ and ‘contradictory’ to the council’s own planning scheme.

The planning scheme established a 25 metre setback requirement which was aimed at protecting the views of the historic building.

If construction goes ahead, it would also require interference with a 100 year old fig tree.
