Noise Maps help Construction Planning Process

Source: http://phys.org/

In Norway it is reported that Cardiovascular diseases caused by traffic noise are responsible for the deaths of almost 150 Norwegians every year. Now part of the construction planning process is listening to roads prior to beginning construction to avoid this.

Authorities are sending residents a noise map prior to starting the construction of a road, highway or airport outside their homes so they will hear what the traffic noise will sound like.

The system is being used to prepare for road repair works as well.
