22 Construction Worker Bullying Complaints in 2016/17made to Fair Work Commission

While bullying is thought of as an individual issue or interpersonal issue, there is research from BeyondBlue which shows that broader environmental factors including poor organisational culture and lack of leadership are the main reasons for bullying.

As BeyondBlue points out, when people are mismatched to  their role, resources and support, workplace stress occurs.

An article on News.com.au stated that work related breakdowns and mental health issues are not only becoming more common, they are one of our “greatest national crises” and it’s particularly common in the construction sector.

Businesses can act to address mental health issues stemming from work stress and put into place strategies that improve the culture in the workplace. BeyondBlue highlights the importance of the relationship between employee and boss.
