Campaign Launched for Construction Workers Digging Live Electricity Cables

NSW Electricity Networks together with SafeWork NSW launched a safety campaign to protect construction workers from digging into live electricity cables.

The “Don’t Know, Don’t Dig” campaign was launched after a 65 per cent increase in underground cable strikes in Sydney over the past 2 years.

According to Endeavor Energy’s General Manager Safety, Human Resources and Environment, Andrew Pitman, you could save your life by finding out what’s below ground before excavating.

He also highlighted that only one in four workers that reported underground strikes over the past 2 years had Dial-Before-You-Dig plans, although they are mandatory under NSW law.

Authorities reminded workers that the campaign is aimed at keeping them safe, preventing damage and disruption to electricity supplies and avoiding the large financial penalties associated with negligent behaviour.
