Fatal Workplace Incident Prompts Warning

Following an incident in which a young man operating a boom elevating work platform (EWP) was killed, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has issued a safety reminder about working with EWP.

The young man was crushed by the EWP while he was attempting to disengage the basket.

Elevating work platforms are important for working at height but there have been many serious incidents where operators were injured, crushed between the basket and overhead obstructions.

The agency suggested a number of controls to manage the risks including checking the work area beforehand for overhead obstructions and power lines.
