The ACT’s construction industry has been revealed as having the most serious long term work related injury claims, while the work injury rates in Canberra continue to rise, despite falling elsewhere in the nation.

The revelation came from a Safe Work Australia report which reviewed the performance of all states and territories based on workplace safety and injury claim rates.

It’s interesting to note that in Canberra, the rate of long term serious injury and disease claims rose from 4.3 for every 1000 workers in 2011-2012 to 5.5 in 2014-15. On the other hand, the national average fell from 4.0 to 3.1 claims for every 1000 employees in the same time. In fact injury rates fell nation-wide in all states and territories except The ACT.
