Homeowners Launch Class Action Against Regulator

A group of homeowners in Melbourne’s north east have launched a class action suite against the Victorian Building Authority.

The homeowners all own homes in the Rangeview estate, which have rotting wood facades, peeling features and nails where they shouldn’t be.

Some homes don’t have properly fitted locks, resulting in doors not being able to lock. Residents also discovered a problem with the separation between their houses, which may be a risk during fires. The only solution would mean moving the walls on both sides further apart.

Although the builder of the estate lost his registration, the problems he left behind haven’t been fixed.

In total 36 residents have launched a class action law suit against the regulator, claiming it failed to regulate construction.
