An industrial psychologist speaking at the Queensland Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference in Townsville says that managers need to reconsider how they approach safety.

Mr Corrie Pitzer, President of SAFEmap  believes that the better we become with managing safety, the worse we become in leading the culture of safety.

Mr Pitzer said focusing on smaller injuries was a mistake because the greater issue of safety culture should be more closely managed to reduce injuries on site.

Mr Pitzer also explained that encouraging workers would result to better safety outcomes.
