Man Suffers Serious Injury After Being Hit By Steel Cover

A workplace health and safety incident has left one man with serious head injuries.

The worker was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a steel cover at a construction site on Monday.

The man was doing maintenance on a wood chipper at the construction site in Springfield Lakes on Grande Avenue.

Paramedics were called to scene where they discovered the man, unconscious.

According to investigations, another worker was using an excavator and lifting straps to help remove a steel cover from the chipper before it came spiraling off. The force of the excavator resulted in the cover flying up and hitting the man who was standing on top of the wood chipper.
