More than 400 students will be housed by a new skyscraper planned for the University of British Columbia, the only difference between this structure and dozens of others similar to it being built is that this one is made completely of wood.

Although the area’s building code requirements restrict the maximum height of wooden residential buildings to six storeys, this structure will be 18 storeys high.

The $51.5 million wooden structure is expected to be completed by 2017.
