Rivers being Polluted by Building Sites


Over 30 construction sites around the Parramatta River area have been issued with fines for inadequate controls which resulted in sediment being washed into the river.

Over the past 3 months, officers from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Council have been visiting building sites to investigate sediment entering the waterways.

Hotspots for water pollution are the Five Dock and Mortlake areas but fines were also issued across the entire Local Government area.

One company was issued with a $6000 fine for the allowing sediment to run into a storm water drain in Five Dock.
