The construction union is pushing for the introduction of heat wave building codes to prevent further incidents like the one we had a few weeks ago when a 17 year old worker was hospitalised for heat exhaustion.

The apprentice almost lost his life after and had to be hospitalised for treatment.

Following the incident, CFMEU SA is pushing for the codes to be implemented this year for private building jobs.

The problem is that on domestic work sites, the boss decides whether workers down tools in extreme termperatures, this is something the new code would address by mandating that workers stop work when temperatures hit 37 degrees.
