Record low interest rates and the rise in housing construction are pushing up the price of pine trees in Australia, the nation’s largest foresty investment company, New Forest, recently revealed.

According to a report by the federal government, housing construction is 17 per cent higher and this has boosted general log harvesting by 8 per cent. This means that 27 million metric tonnes of pine is being harvested.

Low interest rates have boosted construction and when people are buying and building new houses, they buy lumber to build and renovate, which means the demand for timber is higher, New Forest’s chief executive officer, David Brand explained.
