WorkSafe Budget Cuts Blamed for High Fatality Rate in WA

Could the rise in work-related fatalities in WA be in part a result of reduced funding to  the activities of WorkSafe? Workplace related deaths in the state are at a 7 year high.

The government is planning to cut $4.1 million from the WorkSafe budget over the next few years and inspector numbers are already down.

In the last 5 years the number of workplace fatalities in WA has doubled and in the 2014-2015 period, 22 people were killed in work related incidents.

In the 2014-2015 period 3 construction workers were killed on the job.
