Downward Trend among SA Housing Approvals

Despite a downward trend in Australian housing approval rates, they are still at their highest in a long time and South Australia in particular is booming.

Building activity in the state had a resurgence after a 30 per cent rise in building approvals in August. This was the greatest increase of any Australian state.

Last month SA recorded $349.5m of residential construction projects which brought the total value of works for the year to more than $2.9 billion.

The state had 990 approvals with 667 houses, 671 other dwellings and 10 other buildings approved in the month of August.


Building Approvals Up in July

Building approvals nationally have rebounded in July, following the June slump. Building approvals rose by 4.2 per cent nationally and NSW showed the biggest improvement with 6,824 approvals recorded.

NSW approvals rose 27.1 per cent over the month and 68 per cent for the year and housing prices in the state also rose.

In an article on The CoreLogic RP Data survey which found house prices rose 0.3 per cent nationally in August was detailed.  July recorded a 2.8 per cent increase.

The awards which are held annually began almost 3 decades ago and continue to recognise excellence in the construction industry.

The building has been described as combining innovations in architecture, engineering and construction.

More Dwellings Planned for Sydney


The NSW government is planning to build 500 new dwellings in place of a demolished public housing estate in Sydney’s inner city suburb of Glebe.

Construction of the housing will begin in 2016 and is expected to be completed by 2018.
