“Work Safely in the construction industry”CPPCCOHS1001A, the course offered by White Card Online has recently been amended. The course now incorporates both short online questions as well as a number of verbal questions that trainees have the opportunity to answer over the phone.

White Card Online is one of Australia’s leading online compliance training Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), owned and operated by our parent company Urban eLearning. In line with our company’s commitment to excellence we are continuously upgrading and enhancing our online programs to facilitate continuous quality improvement within our organisation and the industry.

Peter Cutforth, Director of Urban eLearning explained that the company is taking an important step in lifting the bar in the industry. He also stated that “the governing body for RTO’s in Australia, “ASQA” has recently been looking closely at the quality of the assessment processes for this qualification, through a “Strategic Review” process”.

According to Cutforthimprovement of the course in the form of the upgraded assessment process elevates the course to an industry-leading new level, especially amongst industry peers, other high profile White Card providers online. It also raises the bar by which other online providers of the construction induction card must now be assessed.

Urban eLearning has run the White Card Online course since 2009 and aims to provide more accessible, convenient and economical training to thousands of Australians, especially in regional areas, the upgrade is a step toward this.

The new assessment process includes both online questions and verbal questions (answered telephonically) to assess the trainee’s ability to report construction site hazards and risks. This new aspect of the assessment is in addition to the 39 multiple choice questions also contained in the previous course.

In 2012 the Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council released course documentation amending the Skills and Knowledge for the White Card course CPCCOHS1001A by incorporating into the course the following sections:

  • verbally reporting construction hazards and risks
  • communication skills to clarify OHS Legislative requirements
  • asking effective questions
  • relaying information to others
  • explaining OHS legislative requirements,
  • explaining the meaning of safety signs and symbols, and
  • discussing basic principles of risk management

According to Cutforth, White Card Online’s short answer assessments are designed to assess the trainee’s ability to apply the skills and knowledge gained in real life situations and scenarios rather than just test their knowledge without knowing if they have the ability to apply it.

Certified trainers assess each trainee’s individual responses and are often required to further discuss their answers in order to confirm to our assessor that the trainee is fully competent.

Urban eLearning is confident that the upgrades have improved the White Card Online process making it more efficient and bringing it in line with our core value of providing trainees with their White Card in a manner that is both efficient and convenient while sticking to the mandatory requirements set out by the Government.
