Property and Infrastructure Boost Construction in May

The Ai Group and Housing Industry Association Performance of Construction Index (PCI) indicates a rise in construction activity by 4.8 points to 56.7 points in May. This was the fourth consecutive month that we experienced a rise in activity, with any reading above the 50 point level indicating expansion.

While housing construction is slowing, engineering construction has expanded to a nine and a half year high.

In May, we experienced very high building approvals numbers, with the apartment construction boom still underway.

According to the Ai Group, the activity and new orders sub-indexes have also contributed to an upturn in employment, excellent news for anyone looking to enter this exciting and challenging industry. Start by completing a general construction induction course online here – it is mandatory for anyone in the building industry.

In the past the construction industry in India has been plagued with stability and corruption issues, with a number of projects collapsing in the past few years. This particular project leaves me wondering if safety and stability were prioritised or whether we need to be worried about if this building will remain standing.
