White Card Changes

The Government rules for getting a White Card Online changed in 2019, so now the requirements are different depending on your State or Territory

In order to get a White Card you need to complete the Unit of Competency known as CPCWHS1001 through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Since 2009, this Unit has always been available by completing either Face-to-Face training in a classroom or online training.

Online RTO’s delivered either a Queensland or a WA White Card, and these were used all around Australia, and were validly accepted on building sites.

This changed in 2019.

▶️  First WorkSafe QLD changed their license conditions with RTO’s so that only people living 100km away from the nearest Face-to-Face provider of White Card training was eligible to do an online course.

▶️  Then WorkSafe WA restricted use of the online course to residents of WA only.

▶️  WorkSafe TAS permits online White Card courses, but Tasmanian residents have to take their “Statement of Attainment” (from the RTO) to a Service Centre in TAS, and they will then receive their White Card posted out by WorkSafe TAS.
